Underway Sailing

Underway Sailing is a BC-based Sail Canada affiliated sailing school. We teach Introductory, Crew and Cruising courses on English Bay in Vancouver, BC. Sail Canada certification is offered to students for the Basic Crew and Basic Cruising Standards.

 

Start Keelboat Sailing

Prerequisites: None

This is a cost – effective entry level learn-to-sail course. Even if you have never sailed before, 

this is your opportunity to get the feel of the wind in your sails, without a lot of written course material to study and no exam. Start Keelboat Sailing students use a workbook but no weighty text.

If you have sailed a dinghy, you understand the basic mechanics of sailing. Step up to a keelboat and learn how a larger boat handles and prepare for the wonders of cruising.

Basic Crew

Prerequisites: None

Learn how to manage a cruising keelboat and be a competent crew member.

This course gives you solid basic sailing skills and teaches you how to handle a keel boat safely. Be ready to handle the boat under power and under sail: docking, anchoring sail changes, points of sail, winch handling and crew overboard recovery.

Basic Cruising Crew certification comes with a Log book and a seal.

Pre-study is required for this course. Please read your text before the course starts. The written exam is based entirely on the text, so study carefully.

Basic Cruising

Prerequisites: None

This is the gold standard introduction course for those who want to become serious sailors.

If you intend to be heading outside the protected confines ofIMG_0375 English Bay and do some trip planning, learn to do it safely and professionally. The Pacific Northwest can be challenging to navigate and demands the respect of those who cruise on her.This course gives you the sailing skills and confidence and teaches you to be both Skipper and Crew for Coastal cruising passages.

As Skipper, you must demonstrate safety procedures, vessel checkout, boat systems, navigation and chart reading, docking, anchoring and Crew Overboard Recovery.

Basic Cruising Standard certification comes with a Log book and a seal.
